Review #226: Kilchoman 2008 Vintage 2015 bottling

Islay - 7- NCF - NCA  - $80 at Binny's - 46%

Kilchoman is the newest distillery on Islay that is currently bottling.  Kilchoman has done a good job of making potable young whiskies. This is the first 7 year old whisky that they made.  It is all from ex-bourbon.

Color - Pale Gold
Nose - Lemon curd, stone fruit, soft smoke, grapefruit
Palate - Malt, lemons, a touch of new wood, butterscotch
Finish - Medium -  Spent matches, 7up, apple peel
Overall - 5 - This is perfectly fine medium peated ex-bourbon whisky.  However, it is not complex and it is not exciting.  There is a ton of sweet lemon throughout the whole dram however, there is not much to balance it out.  The peat is absent on the palate for me so it is just young malt and lemons.  It drinks under its proof like most Kilchomans do for me.  I would pass on this and just pick up Machir Bay which is much cheaper and tastes the similar.
