Review #173: Douglas Laing's The Gauldrons Batch 01
Campbeltown - NAS - NCF- NCA - $60 - 46.2%
This is a relatively new release by Douglas Laing to their Remarkable Regions blends. This completes the map so to speak by finally including Campbeltown. There are only three distilleries in Campbeltown, (Springbank, Glen Scotia, Glengyle) so the options are pretty limited to what goes into this juice.
Color - Ripe corn
Nose - Citrus, grapefruit, sea spray, cereal
Palate - Lemon, cereal, ocean spray
Finish - Medium - Cereal, salt, generic sweetness
Overall - 5 - This is an OK dram but I can't help but compare it to the "Island" DL blend, Rock Oyster. Rock Oyster has plenty of ocean characteristics but a better dram at a lower price. Gauldrons is all citrus, sea spray and cereal. I don't get any peat in this at all. I don't remember any Campbeltown being all sea spray so I don't have any guess on the source.
