Review #230: Edradour 2007 Spec's Grand Arome Rum Finish
I haven't had the best luck with Edradours so I have put off trying this one for a while. It is a 46% 8 year old scotch so I was shocked to see Spec's pricing it at almost $100. Ouch. Edradour former claim to fame is it used to be the smallest distillery in Scotland. Edradour is their non-peated expression and they have a peated expression called Ballenchin. Their thing seems to be doing cask finishes so it is no surprise that this one is Rum finished.
Color - Old Gold
Nose - Chardonnay, vanilla, fresh pears, brown sugar, malt
Palate - Toffee, fresh white fruit, porridge, honey, woody, citrus
Finish - Medium - Pears, honey, crustless french bread, sour cheese and more bread
Overall - 5 - The nose started out interesting, like white wine. The palate is obviously young with how bready it is. It is sweet and malty and that is about it. There is this sour cheese on the finish that is off putting. It isn't enough to make me dump the drink but it does not enhance the experience. As I drank through it, it got a little better to bump to a five from 4.5.
