Reveiw #287: Glen Moray SMWS 35.142 21 Year Old

Speyside - 21 - NCA  - NCF -  ~$180 if I had to guess- 56.2%

Glen Moray is a Speyside distillery that seems to be primary used in blends and used in cheap, wine finished single malts.  I don't know a whole lot about this distillery or their products except that I will reach for their NAS port when I want a late night scotch from time to time.

Color - Russet
Nose -  Prunes, apples sauce, vanilla, heather, hints of leather/earth, natural honey
Palate -  Spices, lots and lots of spices here.  It is like an Apple pie without the fruit.  The spice steps aside and then there is some orchard fruit and tobacco.
Finish - Medium Long - Baking spices, cinnamon, oranges and big spat of new wood, cigar boxes and sandlewood
Overall - 5 -  This is just a little too spicy for my palate.  It just dominates the whole dram.  Lets add in a little water.  OK, this is much better.  The nose kind of gets nuked with water and is more raisins and fresh apples, but muted.  The palate is alive with orchard fruits with the spices sticking the background.  Then it is still heavy spice on the end with more citrus and mellower new wood flavors.  Overall, it is just too spice heavy for my tastes.  An interesting dram but not my speed.
