Bourbon/Rye Review #37: Knob Creek Single Barrel Rye Binny's #6872

Jim Beam -  5 Year - Rye- Unknown Mash Bill - Sample - $45  - 57.5%

This knob creek rye is 5yr 7mo Binny's Barrel # 6872, Sample ID 1-048, Warehouse/Floor 0(7), Rack/Tier 49(2).  I don't have much more on it, so on to the juice.

Color - Amber
Nose - Rye spice, caraway, vanilla, raw oak
Taste - Mild rye, wood, vanilla
Mouthfeel - Medium
Finish - Wet wood, rye spice
Finish Length - Short
Overall - 3/7 - It is not often you nose something that has raw oak on the nose. In fact, this whole dram was overly woody.  The rye spice was mild.  In fact, this one had very mild flavor for being  barrel proof.  This may have been a bad barrel but this is a pass for me.  I'll finish the glass but probably would pass on the second one if offered.

It got better as I drank it, I will up my review to a 3.
