Review #217: AnCnoc 2000 Vintage
AnCnoc is a Speyside distillary typically known for typically a lighter styled dram. I recently had the 18 and loved it. The 2000 Vintage is a limited release of 1,000 cases bottled in September 2014, AnCnoc 2000 was matured in a combination of first-fill Spanish oak sherry seasoned butts and American oak ex-bourbon barrels.
Color - Russet
Nose - Figs, apricots, citrus zest, lavender, honey, vanilla
Palate - Caramel, apples, oily, spices
Finish - Long - Toffee, baking spices, brown sugar, hints of chocolate orange
Overall - 5.5 - The nose at first sniff is all sherried fruit but then deep citrus and floral notes come through. The rest of it is kind of boring. It is like they dumped some entry level sherry notes into the AnCnoc 12 and called it a day. I am not sure what this is supposed to be. It is a tweener for the 12 and 18 but at its price point, it isn't going to make anybody happy. Maybe if they up'd the ABV or the age and didn't add sherry it would be more interesting. For me, this is a pass.
