Review #199: Hazelburn 8 Cask Strength

Campbeltown - 8- NCF - NCA - $80 - 56.5%

This bottle is the triple distilled unpeated line from Springbank.  While triple distillation is common with Irish whiskey, it is uncommon in Scotch.  The only other one I can think of that does triple is Auchentoshan. When I first opened this, I had trouble with it.  As I, drank it, it got easier to review.

Color - Pale Gold
Nose - White grapes, stewed pears, fresh vanilla beans, stone fruit - There is a hint of some funk, maybe plastic, maybe smoke, hard to pin down
Palate - Porridge, mild citrus, korean pears, ginger, grass
Finish - Medium - Mashed potatoes, stewed pears, cigar boxes, orange peel, toffee, pepper
Overall - 6 - While this started out all fruit in the nose, it turned into a malt bomb on the palate. It is enjoyable and interesting, but doesn't leave you excited about more.
