Review #180: Deanston 2008 Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Matured 9y 57.8%
Highland - 9- NCF- NCA - $70 - 57.8%
Color - Burnt Amber
Color - Burnt Amber
Nose - Winey - strawberry, red grapes, apple juice - no heat at all
Palate - Red fruit, cigar box, vanilla, malt - with water, cherry cola and the wood vanishes
Finish - - There's the heat, vanilla, concord grape, cola, wood - water mellows out the wood and brings out cherry cola
Overall - 6.5 - I am on the fence about this dram. This is like a daily dram red wine scotch. It is nice, easy drinking with the water. Without water it is too hot and woody. As I have more, it is growing on me. Deanston once again produces a relatively young whisky that has great flavor but is not complex. Highly drinkable.
