Review #137: Wolfburn Aurora
Highland - NAS - NCF - NCA - Sample ($60 at the local) - 46%
Aurora is a new old distillery. After being shuttered for 140 years, the distillery was rebuilt in 2013. They are still young and getting their line going but I am sure they are hoping to follow in Kilchoman's footsteps with fast aging quality juice. Aurora is a mix sherry and exbourbon casks.
Color - Ripe Corn
Nose - Green apples, geraniums, honey, green tomatoes, pears
Taste - Fruit, treacle, pink lady apples, vanilla, faint spice - really oily and lush mouthfeel
Finish - Medium - Big white fruit, vanilla, touch of wood, nutmeg, cloves
Overall - 6.5 - This was better than I thought. I saw one review that found it very funky but I didn't find it odd. The nose is fruity and green florals, pretty delightful. The body is fruit heavy but balanced out by the vanilla, sweetness and spice. Except for the spice, I get next to no sherry notes. That isn't a bad thing but if you were coming for a sherried expression as advertised, you will probably be disappointed.
