Review #99: "1996 Allt-a-Bhainne 19 Yr "Old Malt Cask" Single Sherry cask

1996 Allt-a-Bhainne 19 Yr "Old Malt Cask" Single Barrel Sherry
Speyside - 19 - NCF - NCA - Sample ($80 at the local) - 50%
I know next to nothing about this distillery except it is the primary juice in Chivas.

Color - Burnt Amber
Nose - Candied apricots, apples, just rich fruits, hints of berries, sponge cake - sweet without being overly sweet.
Taste - Plums, orange, mint, ginger, cinnamon, there is spice but it isn't big and brings balance
Finish - Medium - Orange chocolate, berry, a touch of oak
Overall - 6 - This is a nice sherry bomb, easy drinking, but not complex. I really didn't pick up any notes that would indicate the age statement attached. I like how this walked the line of sweetness and never crosses it. I would probably take a bottle of pick your favorite cask strength sherry bomb over this. If you are an age statement chaser, this is a good price for the age.

Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
