Review #111: Duncan Taylor Octave Glenburgie 2008 6 year 53.5%

Duncan Taylor Octave Glenburgie 2008 6 year 53.5%
So this is a bit of a wild card here. It was distilled in a Octave barrel (10 Gallon). This means it is going age roughly twice as fast as a hogshead, and it is going to have a ton of contact with the wood. I know this process can be real hit or miss so lets see how this goes.
Speyside - 6 - NCF - NCA - Sample (Guessing $70 at the local) - 53.5%
Color - Auburn
Nose - Just gushing vanilla, meringue, cream, caramel, ginger - really pleasant
Palate - Apples, caramel, spice,
Finish - Medium Long - Old wood, vanilla, cream, nutmeg - can get a raw/bitter wood note sometimes
Overall - 6 - I actually liked this. If you like balance, this is far from what you are looking for. If you want an unapologetic barrel bomb, this is a good candidate. I am guessing that the spirit is a light one just because besides some light fruit on the palate, it was all wood. This wouldn't be for everybody but I found it different and enjoyable.
