Review #109: Port Askaig 16

This dram came from a unidentified Islay distillery so it is really an undisclosed single malt. It is a mix of sherry and bourbon. A little looking on the internet looks like it is Caol Ila but I can't confirm.
Islay - 16- NCF - NCA - $70 - 45.8%
Color - Old Gold
Nose - Smoldering cigar, honey - that smoldering cigar/charcoal/ashes is dense enough to keep anything but honey from popping through.
Palate - Honey, apples, smoke, green tomatoes - a bit thin in mouthfeel
Finish - - Smoldering wood ash, honey, black pepper.
Overall - 5.5 - This is a nice easy drinking peated dram. It is a bit one note, but as I have often said, that is fine if I like that one note. That smoldering ash dominates the nose and finish. The palate it levels out a little bit but there isn't a ton there. Overall, a nice easy drinking dram, but lacks the complexity I would expect from 16 years in the barrel.

Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
