Review #50: 2007 Gordon & Macphail Caol Ila 10 year old Refill Sherry

2007 Gordon & Macphail Caol Ila 10 year old Refill Sherry Hogshead # 311989 Binny's Handpicked Cask 59%
I tried this at a whisky tasting. I have only had Caol Ila OB and was not impressed. I had this and instantly bought a bottle.
Islay - 10 years old - NCF - NCA- $70 at the local - 59%
Color - Tawny
Nose - Dried apricots, stewed apples, creme brulee, the first and last sniff bring peat somewhere between smoke and medicine
Taste - Stewed fruits, hints of oak tannins, a bit of spice, raisins and there is just a few things I cannot pick up.
Finish - Medium Long - Candied apricots and Caol Ila smoke
Overall - 8 - Love this dram. The marrying of sherry stewed fruit with Caol Ila smoke is just delightful. This is a complete package, interesting from nose to finish. If Caol Ila smoke married with some sherried fruits sounds up your alley, I would recommend this. This is a lovely balanced dram from Islay where I usually prefer drams that aren't alanced.

Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
