Review #42: Glenfarclas 105

Glenfarclas 105
I have had several bottles of Glenfarclas 12 but for some reason never explored up the verticle. The 105 is their equivalent of their cask strength with a little bit of a ripple. The 105 is from the British proof system which is 60% ABV. There is a bit of a vintage effect as they blend casks to get to 60% and this causes some variation. Also, some vintages have an age statement of 10 years and some do not depending on what they need to do to get to 60%.
Speyside - 10 Years* - NCF - NCA - Sample ($80 at the local) - 60%
Color - Tawny
Nose - Stewed fruits, raisins, apricots, toffee, hints of new wood and spice
Taste - Oily mouthfeel - More stewed fruits, oak, sherry, caramel, vanilla cream
Finish - Medium Long - Figs, apricots and vanilla cream
Overall - 6.5 - This was a nice sherry bomb. It tasted exactly as I expected to taste, an amped up Glenfarclas 12, but with bigger sherry notes. I prefer this over the Glendronach CS as a sherry bomb. I have read that this used to be pretty inexpensive and a favorite in scotch communities. If this was the case, it would have a permanent spot on the shelf. As it is currently, I am interested in Islay and ex-bourbons while my friends drink up all my sherried Speysides and I rarely get a dram, I will probably wait for a sale.

Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
