Bourbon/Rye Review #1: A Midwinter's Night Dram Act 5 Scene 5
A Midwinter's Night Dram Act 5 Scene 5
Rye - NAS - NCF- No Color Added - Sample ($80 at the local) - 48.3%
Color - Mahogony
Nose - First a blast of dill and then that instantly goes away. Burnt sugar, spice, and more sweetness.
Taste - Caramel, vanilla, baking spices and salt. Great mouthfeel, much more than the ABV would imply.
Finish - Long - Spice, caramel, salt and sweetness
Overall - 4 - The subtleties and the finish is what carries this whisky. While most rye's tend to beat you over the head, this is much more elegant. This is the best rye I have ever had. I would love to have it side-by-side with Whistle Pig to see how it holds up. This pairs wonderfully with a ribeye topped with bleu cheese.
Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
