Review #283: Glentauchers 8 Exclusive Malts First Fill Sherry
Speyside - 8 - NCF - NCA - $70 - 57.9%
Glentauchers is Speyside distillery that is a blending workhorse for Ballentine's and Teacher's Highland Cream. This particular dram was from a first fill sherry barrel. Let's see how this tastes.
Color - Brown Sherry
Nose - Figs, walnuts, chocolate, stewed apples, brown sugar, nuts, vanilla, chocolate mouse
Palate - Figs, walnuts, malt, powdered hot chocolate, new wood, citrus
Finish - Medium - Quick sherried fruit quickly taken over by nuts, chocolate, baking spices, malt, citrus, a touch hot

Overall - 7 - Oh boy, look at that color. The nose comes and delivers on this guy. Fruit, walnuts and chocolate, so rich and lovely. If only the nose continued throughout the dram. The palate and finish on this is fine. Very sherried but a little rough around the edges. I added water which gets rid of the heat and rough edges. However, it also turns this into an easy drinking, but a little generic, sherry bomb. Overall, a nice showing from a young malt. If this was still on the shelf, I would pick up a bottle as QPR is great.
