Review #272: Tobermory Maltbarn 22

Island - 22 - NCF - NCA - $150 - 53.4%

Tobermory is an island distillary on the Isle of Mull.  Tobermory is the the unpeated malt produced by this distillery, Ledaig, being their peated line.  Tobermory is famous for taking the tails or feints of their spirit production.  These feints contain loads of fusel oils which may or may not contribute to a hang over, but definitely contribute to Tobermory's unique flavors.  More on feints, hearts and foreshots can be found here.  This particular dram was finished in an ex-bourbon hogshead for 22 years.
Color - Old gold
Nose - Fresh grass, sauvignon blanc, honey, heather, new oak, limes
Palate -  Hay, toffee, honey, pea pods, hints of citrus
Finish - Medium - Sauvignon blanc, butter, sweat, dark rum, olive oil
Overall - 6 - This was an interesting one.  This is one of the more floral drams I have had.  It is consistent throughout.  That consistent sauvignon blac taste throughout of minerality, acidity, citrus and touch of sharpness held this dram together. It is complex and drinkable enough to be enjoyable.  Having said that, I don't think I would want a whole bottle of it.
