Review #254: Aultmore Dark Friday Germany #4
Speyside- 10 - NCF - NCA - $90 - 53.7%
Aultmore is a blending workhorse for Dewars. They do come up with the occasionally great IB. This was distilled in a sherry barrel and is from 1 of 96 bottles. That seems like a tiny yield for a 10 year old with, especially in a sherry butt.
Color - Tawny
Nose - Hazelnuts, chocolate, sulfur, prunes
Palate - Sweet - Riesling, almonds,
Palate - Sweet - Riesling, almonds,
Finish - Long - Milk chocolate, marshmallows, nuts, cabbage water
Overall - 7 - This was pretty good. The nose was a little overwhelming with sulfur but it settled down on the palate. It is on the sweeter side but not cloying at all. I think the sulfur notes are a touch too much but not enough to be distracting. Overall I like this and would buy a bottle if it were easily available.
