Bourbon/Rye Review #34: Colonel E.H. Taylor Rye
Buffalo Trace- NAS - Rye - Unknown Mash - Sample - $80 - 50%
CEHT Rye is Buffalo Trace's high rye mashbill, different from the low rye like Saz or Thomas Handy
CEHT Rye is Buffalo Trace's high rye mashbill, different from the low rye like Saz or Thomas Handy
Color - Amber
Nose - Vanilla, Red Fruit, Rye Spice, Floral - a much more mild nose than I would expect
Taste - Rye Spice that drowns out some white fruit, vanilla, floral notes,
Mouthfeel - Light
Finish - Big rye spice, sandlebox, tea leaves, licorice, floral
Finish Length - Medium Long
Overall - 3.5/7 - The nose on this is surprisingly muted. The palate itself is pleasant, not complex. The finish on this is very nice and makes up for the weak start. However, the price on this is unjustifiable. If this was priced the same as CEHTSmB, I would be stocking this to sip on and mix in Manhattans. However, at $80, it is a hard pass. .
Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
