Bourbon/Rye Review #27: High West Light Whiskey 14 year

High West -  14 - American Whiskey - 100C - Sample - $100 - 48%

Light whisky is traditionally a blending whiskey that is used to dilute stronger flavored whiskey.  It is distilled to a higher ABV 80-95%.  This is MGP light whisky distilled to 85%.

Color - Caramel
Nose - Vanilla, marshmallow, Corn, some generic floral notes
Taste - Vanilla, brown sugar
Mouthfeel - Thin
Finish - Vanilla, marshmallow, caramel
Finish Length - Medium
Overall - 3/7 - This is a one trick pony, which can be great, except I don't really love the trick.  It is perfectly drinkable but it isn't complex.  All vanilla and marshmallow.  Kind of a fun novelty but the price asked for a low ABV 14 year seems egregious.  For about the same price, you can get some lowland grain whisky with at least 10 more years on it and with some more weight.  It is a pass for me.

Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
