Review #194: Benriach 18 Single Cask Tawny Port Finish 1995 Cask #5962

Speyside - 18 - NCF - NCA - $200 - 55.5%

This is an Astor wines bottling from BenRiach that is finished in Tawny Port.

Color - Burnt Amber
Nose - Big fruit - peaches, apricots, strawberry, dark chocolate, vanilla, honey, hot chocolate powder
Palate - Chewy chocolate, red berries, grapes, peaches
Finish - Medium - Stewed strawberries, chocolate fudge, honey,
Overall - 6 - This is very nice, rich red fruit and chocolate throughout.  The chocolate helps balances out the bursting fruit flavors.  It is a big, chewy and not subtle on any level.  Very nicely done.  It beats you over the head with its flavor, which, I am not sure if I like or not.  At the price point, I would prefer a little more subtlety.  I think the price on this is overly steep.  However, this is a nice dram to sit and contemplate 100 years anniversary of the Armistice.
