Review #121: Lagavulin 8
Lagavulin 8
Islay - 8 years old - Chill-Filtered* - NCA* - Sample ($55 at the local) - 48%
Color - Pale Gold
Nose - Plastic bucket, lemon zest, honey, Parmesan stink
Taste - Honey, citrus, plastic
Finish - Medium - Smoke, burnt rubber, sugar in the raw
Overall - 6 - This is not a bad entry level peated dram. It would compete with Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg 10. The amped up ABV helps this but it still is a little thin in the mouth. A one dimensional peat bomb that I would pick up when it goes on sale. Personally, Frog 10, Ardbeg 10, and Laga 8 in that order.
* There was a lot of conflicting information on this but I am going natural color due to German bottling information
