Bourbon/Rye Review #10: Michter's Rye Toasted Barrel Finish
Mitchers - NAS - Rye- Undisclosed - Sample ($75) - 52%
Color - Deep Mahogany
Nose - Rye spice, vanilla, white grapes, cloves - interesting the fruit on the nose
Taste - Caramel, vanilla, nutty - very little spice on the palate
Mouthfeel - Medium but a bit thin
Finish - Toffee, vanilla, spice, cinnamon and pecans - a little sweetness and corn
Finish Length - Medium
Overall - 3/7 - This could possibly be the least rye like rye I have ever had. I got so little spice on the palate, combined with light spice up front and back that I probably would have guessed a rye heavy bourbon mashbill as opposed to a straight rye. The vanilla was pretty thick on this one. Personally, I would take a Four Roses OBSK over this as I think that they are similar but the OBSK is more enjoyable to drink and has more going on.
Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
