Review #92: Glenfiddich IPA Cask

Glenfiddich IPA Cask

I was interested in this and tried to find out more about it. Is Glenfiddich making beer out of their own mash? Is this another distillery? Is this English style IPA or American?

After going through Glenfiddich's extensive website on the IPA cask, all I can think of is the classic Christopher Walken quote "What we got here is a little game of show and tell. You don't wanna show me nothin'. But you're tellin' me everything." So after some time on their site, I will conclude that it is NAS Glenfiddich that was "finished in bespoke craft India Pale Ale barrels."

It is NCF, so that is a pleasant bonus. However, having the preferred serve be "With a slice of blood orange peel and an ice ball" scares me.

For some color, I have had Glenfiddich 12 many times, just not in several years since my friend who drank it moved. Besides this, I have not had any Glenfiddich.

Speyside - NAS - NCF - Color added (probably)- Sample ( I would guess ~ $70 at the local) - 43%

Color - Deep gold

Nose - Lemon and honey, pears, apples and germanium

Taste - Toffee, lemon, vanilla,

Finish -Medium - Honey, creme caramel, vanilla, and citrus zest

Overall - 5 - There is nothing in here that would lead me to believe that this is an IPA finished beer past the label. I guess there are citrus notes throughout, which is sort of IPA like. But not that IPA hoppy funk by any means. Now that we are past that, this is an OK dram, basic, but more than palatable. I would pass on this for 1.5 bottles of your light honey lemon scotch of choice.
