Reviews #64 & 65: Glen Scotia 15 and Glen Scotia 1992 Gordon and Macphail CS 12yr

Glen Scotia is a Cambeltown distillery that is currently one of the smallest in Scotland in terms of production. They recently got bought and it is assumed that they will scale up production. I have only had Springbank lines from Campbeltown and looking forward to expanding my horizons.

Glen Scotia 15

Campbeltown - 15 Years - Chill-Filter - Color Added- Sample ($80 at the local) - 46%

Color - Burnished

Nose - Golden raisins, spice, oranges, burnt sugar, slight lactic undertones

Taste - a bit thin - Citrus, more on the orange side, powdered sugar and toffee

Finish - Medium Long - Longer than I would expect. Citrus, honey, and creme brulee,

Overall - 5 - While the finish had some big legs on it, this just didn't have enough to keep my interest. This to me is more in line with a generic highland. It isn't bad by any means, it is really pleasant. Just not unique or anything that would make me order another dram of this.

Campbeltown- 11 - NCF - Color?- Sample ($90 at the local) - 59%

Color - Deep copper

Nose - There is some funk in this. Some raisins, nuts, stewed apricots, fabric softener. This is a hard to pin down nose.

Taste - Mouth coating - Stewed fruit, apricots, sandlewood

Finish - Medium Long - Dry, lots of salivation, citrus, orange zest, tough of wood and a touch of heat

Overall - 6 - This is a neat scotch, one of those that would take several drams to really get to know. Unfortunately, it looks like this is not to be found anymore. I enjoyed the fleeting moment with this bottle.
