Review #90: Springbank Bourbon Wood 14

Springbank Bourbon Wood Aged 14 years
This is a limited 9,000 bottle release that was aged exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels.
Campbeltown - 14 - NCF - NCA- $120 - 55.8%
Color - Ripe Corn
Nose - Vanilla, Aunt Jemima's, a touch of funk and a touch of tarragon
Taste - Toffee, stewed bananas, melons, vanilla - Big Mouthfeel
Finish -Long - Vanilla, merengue, toffee, and a touch of sweet
Overall - 5.5 - This is not your typical Springer, this trades away the Springbank funk for big ex-bourbon notes. If tasted blind, I could easily guess it was a barrel proof bourbon. This is big ex-bourbon, great mouthfeel, big finish with bourbon and wood notes all the way without losing balance. I can see why this has been a polarizing one, if you want classic Springbank notes, you aren't going to be impressed. Personally, I like it but probably wouldn't buy a second bottle.

Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
