Review #87: anCnoc 12 - new NCF NCA release

Ancnoc 12 NCF edition

One of my my first swaps included Ancnoc 12. This disappeared from the shelves for a little bit and reappeared with packaging that stated NCA and NCF. The previous edition made no such claims. I sent the distillery a message asking if they changed from chill filtering to NCF and of course they didn't reply. I assume that unless specifically that it is NCF and/or NCA that it is chill-filtered and color added. Because of this, I am assuming they changed the Ancnoc line to be NCF and NCA. Here is the old labeling without the NCF claims and in the post image, is the new label boasting of color and NCF just above the drawing on the bottle.

I noted back in my review that I would like it if "maybe if the ABV was kicked up a notch or NCF, this would make this more my style." Well they delivered NFC, put it on the bottle and now I am going to give it another look.

Highland - 12- NCF - NCA- Sample ($45 at the local) - 43%

Color - Yellow Gold

Nose - Big honey, honey lemons, vanilla, floral scents- fresh flowers,

Taste - Lemon, honey, light barley, meringue

Finish - Medium - Lemon, cereal, toffee treacle and very light floral notes

Overall - 7 - Maybe it is psychosomatic, but this tastes much approved. The mouthfeel has structure, the finish is pleasant, the taste is pleasant. It is very one note, but it is enjoyable. It also no longer tastes as cough drop like as last edition. I have decided to keep this as a regular spot in my collection for the "light" style that most guests won't find offensive, but cheap enough to not care if they dump ice in it. The price is great and the whisky will hit the spot when in the mood.
