Review #82: Deanston 10 PX cask

Deanston 10 PX Finish
I don't usually quote wikipedia but I thought this was interesting.
Deanston Distillery started life in 1785 as a cotton mill designed by Sir Richard Arkwright, and remained as such for 180 years until it was transformed into a distillery in 1966. The constant supply of pure water from the River Teith contributed to the decision to turn the mill into a distillery and Deanston is now the only distillery in Scotland to be self-sufficient in electricity, with power generated by an on-site hydro-energy facility.

Highland - 10 years old - NCF - NCA- Sample ($70 at the local if I were to guess) - 50%
Color - Deep Gold
Nose - Candied apricots, apple, toffee, grapefruit zest
Taste - Stewed and candied fruit, green tomatoes, raisins, walnuts, lemon zest
Finish - Long - Light brown sugar, Tangerines, and a touch of toffee, fig and citrus
Overall - 6 - This an impressive sherry bomb. I would put it in line with the classics like 105. The finish has be going back and forth. Is the finish too sweet or is it just a dessert scotch? Today, I am going to say dessert scotch as it is hitting the spot. I would have to be in the mood for this much sugar. If a very sweet finish is not your thing, I would pass. If a sweeter cask strength sherry bomb is up your alley, pick this up.

Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
