Review 78: Glengoyne Cask Strength batch 005

I have been trying to settle in on a cask strength sherried scotch to keep around as a house scotch. Glendronach was good but too muted for my tastes. Glenfarclas 105 is currently the leader. I have a couple A'bunadh to try anther day. However, somebody on this board said how they didn't care for the Glendronach but liked this. So, I thought I would give it a day in court.
Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch 005
Highland - NAS - NCF - NCA - $70 at the local - 59.1%
Color - Russet
Nose - Figs, apricots, custard, vanilla, sea spray (I know it is nowhere near an ocean, but I smell it.) a touch of candied anise, syrup
Taste - stewed fruit, toffee, bananas, black pepper, strawberry
Finish - Medium - Toffee, Treacle, allspice
Overall - 6.5 - This is a nice sherry bomb. Don't promise much, but delivers where it needs to. I would say this is jammier and more toffee focused than the Glenfarclas. I would recommend this to fans of the other cask strength sherry bombs, especially at a discount to A'bunadh and 105.

Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
