Review #70: 2007 Signatory Strathisla 9 year old Hogshead # 800038 bottled for Vintage Winebow
2007 Signatory Strathisla 9 year old Hogshead # 800038 bottled for Vintage Winebow
Strathisla distillery is the oldest continuously operating distillery in Scotland. It is mainly used for Chivas Regal blends but occasionally puts out an IB. I have read on here that it is hard to find an offering that wasn't 40%, so when I saw one, I grabbed it.
Speyside - 9 Years - NCF - NCA - $70 - 58.5%
Color - Pale Gold
Nose - Honey, lavender, vanilla, green apples, perfume
Taste - Pepper, herbs de Provence, honey, candied lemons, treacle - great mouthfeel
Finish - Medium - Pepper, sugar, and light toffee
Overall - 7 - This is really an interesting one. It starts out all fruit and floral. Then when it hits your palate is hard to pin down spice, herbs, sweetness and citrus. Then the finish is big time pepper balanced out with the sweet toffee. It is a different whisky, but very enjoyable.
