Review #46: Port Charlotte Scottish Barley
Port Charlotte Scottish Barley
I have now put 6 Bruichladdich reviews in the books so I feel it is time to tackle their Port Charlotte line. Named after a extinct distillery, Port Charlotte is their heavily peated line.
Islay - NAS - NCF - NCA - Sample ($60 at the local) - 50%
Color - Yellow Gold
Nose - Fragrant flowers, honey, hints of lactic notes and vanilla, green apple - I am not getting any smoke.
Taste - Apples, raw wood, cereal - nice mouth feel.
Finish - Medium- Smoke, raw wood, honey, vanilla
Overall - 6 - The heavily peated did not come through for me. If you are looking for southern Islay or big peat, it is not here. It is more in line with Kilchoman. It does come off as a little young and there is a bit more heat than I expected. Unless this goes on sale, I don't see myself buying it but reaching for Machier Bay instead.
Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
