Review #3: Trader Joe's 14 year Glen Moray

Trader Joe's 14 year Glen Moray

Every year, Trader Joe's releases a holiday single malt.  This year it is a Glen Moray.

Speyside - 14 years - Chill Filtered (probably) - Color Added (probably) - $33 - 40%

Color - Deep Copper

Nose - White Grapes, vanilla, apples, hint of grapefruit.

Taste - Fresh Fruit comes first, apples, pears, then comes the wood, new wood, cigar boxes.

Finish - Medium long - Strong vanilla one note to start, a bite of bitterness, then this fades fresh fruit and vanilla.

Overall - 4.5 - This is not a great bottle but excusable for the price. It has some more complexity than I thought. That bitter note in the finishes, bothers me a little bit. While decent for the price, I would not buy again. At that same price point I would buy one of the animal blends (Pig's Nose, Sheep Dip, Monkey Shoulder) as opposed to buy this again. However, based on this, I will probably buy the next TJ's holiday release.
