Review #18 - Laphroaig Triple Wood
Laphroaig Triple Wood
Islay - NAS - NCF - e150 - Sample ($60 at the local) - 48%
I have been a fan of Laphroaig ever since I bought a bottle of their 10 on a spontaneous purchase. I have yet to the Triple Wood, which is supposed to by the Quarter Cask with an additional Sherry finish. Thank you u/TwiddleDD [+3] for the sample.
Color - Burnished - Much darker than the Laphroaig's other standard natural color expressions
Nose - Smoke and raisins at first. Medicinal peat but not the standard iodine, more on the seaweed side. Wet earth and figs.
Taste - Creamy sherry fruits, like a sherbet. Nice coating mouthfeel. Tar and seaweed.
Finish - Medium Long - Sweet cigar ash and caramel
Overall - 7.5 - I am a fan of this guys. It is has this wonderful sweet coating in the mouth with some peat to balance it out. I am always leery of the move that the big distilleries are making to NAS expressions but this one delivers. The sherry mellows out the peat of the QC and brings those sherried fruits to the drink. The sherry barrel did seam to mute out some of the peat in favor of the sherry fruit flavor. The difference between this and the QC is personal preference. I look forward to my next Laphroaig purchase of the 10CS.
Rating system is price influenced as it is based on my shopping decisions when buying a bottle.
